Welcome!

The Department of Biological Sciences offers the Bachelor of Science in Biology. This degree program is designed to meet the needs of students with a variety of career goals. Many students are preparing for professional schools in such areas as medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. Other students plan to pursue employment in biological sciences after graduation, while still others plan to attend graduate school. Student interests vary from the professional disciplines, to cellular and molecular biology, microbiology, zoology, botany, physiology, and ecology, and the applied fields of forestry, fisheries and wildlife.

There are many advantages of pursuing the B.S. in Biology at LSUA. All majors' courses in biology at LSUA are taught by professors who have earned a Ph.D. in their area of expertise. Majors' classes are small with lots of opportunity for students to interact with and get to know their professors and classmates. Field trips are a common feature of some classes. There are also many opportunities for students to participate in undergraduate research with a faculty member. Most of the major sub-disciplines of biology are represented among the faculty, so a student is almost sure to find a faculty member with interests similar to his/her own. The biology students at LSUA are a close-knit group who assist each other with learning and have fun together outside of classes.
